Gill: Murphy's gonna need his spiritual guru on speed dial An intriguing lightweight scrap takes place on Saturday when Southern Area champion and recent British light welterweight title challenger Ben Murphy (8-5-1) takes on Cheshunt's Phil 'The Phil Gill Experience' Gill (12-0-2) at the Camden Centre. Several boxing pundits see Murphy (9st 9lbs), who lasted until the 11th round in his late notice challenge to Ashley Theophane earlier this year, as a clear favourite to successfully defend the belt.

Murphy who won the title last November beating Tony Owen and recently gave Ashley Theophane a hard fight says he i s now ready to be the next British champ. Gill who won the British Maters title in his last fight against Ibrar Riyaz last time out also at the Camden Centre is keen to continue his winning streak and the winner of this is in line for a crack at the British title. Promoter Mickey Helliet said”I’ve never seen either fighter in a bad fight and the winner will meet Carl Johanssen” Gill said”I’m going to gatecrash this one and win the fight” to which Murphy replied”I’m going to be the next British champ you’ve not fought the same class of opponents as me” The bill is unfortunately not on TV so if you haven’t managed to get a ticket Daily Sport will be covering the show.
